SEWELL, NJ – The Philadelphia Rebels (6-13-0-1, 13 pts) host a three-game series against the Johnstown Tomahawks (8-9-3-0, 19 pts) this weekend beginning on Friday night.
Here are five things to know ahead of the series:
1. Rebound Rebels
The Rebels ended a five-game skid in style last weekend at Danbury, sweeping the Jr. Hat Tricks with an overtime win and a six-goal win.
On Friday night, Connor Sedlak took things into his own hands in the overtime period after lunging into the zone on a pass from goaltender Jakub Krbecek. Sedlak launched a shot into the top of the net and capped off Philadelphia’s first win of the month.
Saturday’s win featured a seven-goal outburst by the Rebels with seven different goal scorers, 12 players with a point and five players with multiple points.
It was their highest offensive output of the season.
2. Stars of the Week
Krbecek landed East Division First Star of the Week honors for his performance in the sweep at Danbury.
He stopped 54 of 56 (.964) shots faced in the two games against the Hat Tricks and added an assist as he picked up the Rebels first consecutive wins of the season.
Sedlak finished the weekend with two goals and three points on his way to being named an East Division Star of the Week Honorable Mention.
Sedlak leads the team with seven goals this season.
3. Fitting Right In
In just his second game with the Rebels, newly-acquired defenseman Dom Foglia recorded a goal and an assist in the 7-1 win on Saturday.
Foglia was acquired from Corpus Christi and is set to play collegiately at Colgate University.
4. Special Teams
The Rebels converted for two power-play goals during the weekend at Danbury, bringing their season percentage up to 18.0%.
Tyler Stern and Oliver Band converted on the man-advantage in Saturday’s win and both recorded multi-point games in the victory.
5. Scouting Johnstown
This weekend will begin with the season’s fourth matchup between the two teams as Johnstown has won two of three, but all three of the previous games were played in Johnstown.
Philadelphia will host Johnstown and look to stop leading-scorer Drake Albers who has nine goals and 19 points this season.
The Johnstown power-play has not been extremely effective this season (13.6%), but James Barbour and Anthony Galante have both accounted for four power-play goals each.
