The New Jersey Titans defeated the Aston Rebels last night by the score of 2 – 1 completing a two game sweep over the weekend and giving the Titans a four point lead of the Rebels in the East Division with 14 games remaining in the season.
Last night’s game was very similar to Saturday night’s with a lot of tight checking and neutral zone play. Then just thirty eight seconds into the second period, New Jersey’s Anthony Cusanelli beat Rebels goalie Darion Hanson on a breakaway to give the visitors the lead heading into the third period.
The Rebels dominated the start of the third period but couldn’t get anything passed New Jersey’s Spencer Wright. With 4:26 in the period, Jesse Farabee passed it to Michael Gelatt and found Raymond Brice who put it passed Hanson to give the visitors a 2 – 0 lead. It was Gelatt’s sixteenth goal on the season.
With time winding down, Ryan Cusin passed the puck down low to Kristofers Bindulis. Bindulis passed it behind the net to Dom Garica who tucked the puck in short-side behind Wright cutting the Titans deficit in half. Despite a valiant effort at the end, Wright and the Titans were too much giving them a weekend sweep of the Rebels.
Wright had 30 saves on 31 shots while Hanson stopped 13 of 15 shots. Click here for the box score.
The Rebels have 14 games remaining in the season, six of them are against New Jersey, two against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and six against Johnstown.
