WEEKEND PREVIEW: 02/12 – 2/13

Feb 11, 2016

A Weekend in Johnstown

This weekend the Rebels will visit Johnstown to play the Tomahawks in back-to-back games. The last time these two teams met, the Tomahawks were victorious over the Rebels by a score of 5-2. This is a great opportunity for the Rebels to distance themselves from the Tomahawks, as well as the Titans in the standings. The Rebels currently sit in first place in the Eastern Division with 51 points. However, the Tomahawks are not far behind, as they sit in third place with 49 points, and they will surely be looking to gain some ground in the standings this weekend.

Which Hawks are Hot

The Tomahawks fell to the New Jersey Titans in their last game 5-2, so the Rebels can expect them to come out with some jump and try to get on the board early. Per usual this season, the Rebels will have to look towards stopping Luke Lynch, who is the Hawks leading goal scorer with 22 on the season. Luke has also put up 19 assists this season to give him 41 points total on the year. Lynch had three goals total last weekend and the NAHL top ten-goal scorer will be looking to have a strong outing against the Rebels to help propel his team towards first place.

Merulla on Fire

For the second straight week, Michael Merulla has been named the NAHL East’s Player of the Week. Merulla has played unbelievable lately, and in the Rebels only game last week he put up 5 points (4G 1A). Merulla is now the team’s leading scorer with 41 points (21G 20A) in only 31 games. Merulla is also now tied for 11th in the league in scoring with about ten games in hand over everyone ahead of him – and he is showing now signs of slowing down anytime soon.
