The Aston Rebels are proud to announce that defenseman Kristofers Bindulis has committed to play NCAA Division 1 Ice Hockey for the Lake Superior State Lakers, who play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA).

Bindulis, the home game captain for the Rebels, leads the team in total points this season with 19. The left-handed shooting defenseman is from Riga, Latvia. He is playing in his third year of junior hockey, and he is the Rebels first NCAA commitment.

“I’m really excited to sign with LSSU and move on to play hockey at the next level” stated Bindulis. “I am extremely thankful to my parents and all of my coaches and teammates who have helped me get to where I am going” conclude Bindulis.

“It is so well deserved. I couldn’t be happier for Kristofers and his family for him to play Division 1 hockey” noted Rebels head coach Joe Coombs. “He has worked extremely hard for it. I think that he is a first rate example of what it takes for a NAHL player to play D1 hockey. Bindy leads by example. He brings a solid mental aspect to the rink everyday. His preparation is first rate. We are very happy for him” conclude Coombs.

“Bindy is a well rounded player” stated Rebels teammate and away captain Austin Swingle. “He has a lot of offensive ability as well as defensive. He works very hard off the ice. Most importantly, Bindy is a great locker room guy. We all are excited for him” concluded Swingle.

The Lakers have a rich ice hockey tradition, winning three NCAA Frozen Four National Championships and have sent over 180 players onto the National Hockey League.
