ODENTON, MD – Seventeen seconds into the third period, Max Hamstad scored his second goal of the night to give the Philadelphia Rebels (10-15-1-1, 22 pts) a 4-2 lead over the Maryland Black Bears (21-7-2-0, 44 pts). The goal helped Philadelphia complete a three-point weekend on the road.
The game started off fast as Hamstad and Charles Panchisin both scored in the first period. It was Panchisin’s first of his career and the game headed into the first intermission knotted at 2-2.
David Deputy (8) scored the lone goal of the second period and gave the Rebels a 3-2 lead.
Brayden Stannard started the Black Bears’ comeback with his third goal of the season to trim the Rebels’ lead to 4-3.
With five minutes to go Gunnar VanDamme scored his first goal of the season to knot the game at 4-4 and sent the game into overtime with Maryland.
Jakub Krbecek was having a stellar night in goal, making miraculous save after miraculous save. After a penalty forced Krbecek out of the game in overtime, Pete Dunckel was thrown into the fire and had to make his NAHL debut.
Maryland would head to the powerplay and Brendan Piku would score the game-winning goal with 39 seconds to go in the extra period.
The Rebels were able to pick up a point in the contest, their fourth straight game with a point, as they look to push up the standings in the East Division.
Philadelphia will have one last game of 2022 as they head up to Danbury on Dec. 19 for an afternoon matchup with the Jr. Hat Tricks at 3:30 p.m.
