Jan 14, 2023

SEWELL, NJ-  The Philadelphia Rebels (14-17-1-1, 30 pts) and New Jersey Titans (21-12-1-1, 44 pts) wrapped up their weekend set Saturday night at Hollydell Ice Arena.

After the Rebels came away with the win Friday night to hand New Jersey its first regulation loss since October, the Titans took Saturday’s contest 4-1.

For much of the first period, neither team was able to generate any offense. With under three minutes to go in the period Johnny McMahon recorded the first goal of the game to give the Titans a one-goal lead heading into the first intermission.

The Rebels were able to tie the game up early in the second period off a power-play goal from Greg Spitznagel. It was his second goal of the weekend series. Dominik Bartecko was able to score for New Jersey midway through the period and hand the Titans the one-goal lead back.

The Rebels had two other power-play opportunities in the period, but they were unable to capitalize on either.

Tyler Sanborn gave the Titans an insurance goal in the third period to extend their lead to two goals. Ben Muthersbaugh recorded the empty-netter to push the Titans’ lead to three in the final minute of play.

Jakub Krbecek stopped 26 of the 29 shots he faced in the contest for Philadelphia.

The Rebels will look to rebound when they head up to New England for a two-game set with the Northeast Generals on Thursday and Friday.
