Rebels Slay Titans to Start Weekend

SEWELL, NJ-  On Friday night, the Philadelphia Rebels (16-18-1-1, 34 pts) defeated the New Jersey Titans (23-13-1-1, 48 pts) 3-2 to kick off their weekend series.

After finding themselves down 1-0 after the first period, the Rebels responded in the second period with two goals to take a lead into the third.

Just over a minute into the second period, Connor Sedlak delivered the tying goal after going right through the heart of New Jersey’s defense to deliver a backhanded shot past Zak Brice. Sonny DiNubile recorded an assist on Sedlak’s team-leading 13th goal of the season.

With 7:15 to go in the period, Otto Polakovs scored his first career goal in the NAHL to give the Rebels their first lead of the game.

The Rebels would hold the lead as the final period of action began.

Tyler Stern added a power-play goal in the third period to give the Rebels a two-goal lead. Sedlak picked up an assist on the goal for his second point of the night.

New Jersey’s Robert Hyde answered on the power play for the Titans to cut the lead to one with under seven minutes to play in the contest. 

Jakub Krbecek made 26 saves and the Rebels held on for the win after a late push by the Titans with their goalie pulled. 

The Rebels’ win was their ninth in their last 13 contests.

Philadelphia is back on the ice Saturday on the road to finish the home-and-home with the Titans.
