SEWELL, NJ – In their final home game of the 2022-2023 season, the Philadelphia Rebels (26-29-2-1, 55 pts) once again used a strong third period to come away victorious by a score of 5-2 over the Johnstown Tomahawks (28-25-4-1, 61 pts).
Fresh off a 6-1 victory Friday night, and a five-goal third period, the Rebels looked to carry that momentum into Saturday afternoon’s game.
On Sunday, Johnstown was able to start off the scoring with the lone goal of the first period. Ryan Johnson scored his 11th goal of the season for the Tomahawks to give them the lead a little over eight minutes into the contest. Philadelphia had two power play opportunities in the first, but was unable to capitalize.
With a little over seven minutes to go in the second period, David Deputy fired a pass from Max Hamstad into the back of the net to tie the game at one apiece. For the second day in a row, the game would head into the final period tied 1-1.
Philadelphia would go on to score four goals in the final period to once again complete the win. Dom Foglia got the scoring started in third to give Philadelphia a 2-1 lead, but Johnstown would end up tying the game.
After that, it was all Philadelphia. The Rebels would go on to score three goals in the final six minutes. Max Marquette handed the Rebels the lead right back a minute after Johnstown’s goal. Then, Oliver Band and Deputy would provide the insurance goals.
It was Deputy’s second goal of the game and 21st of the season. Jakub Krbecek was once again stellar in net for the Rebels, recording 36 saves in the series finale.
Philadelphia now heads up to Maine for their last two games of the season against the Nordiques on April 14 and April 15.
