The Rebels are pleased to announce that forward Michael Merulla has committed to play NCAA Division 1 Ice Hockey for the Boston College Eagles. The Eagles play in the Hockey East Association. His commitment begins in the fall of 2016.
Merulla, 20, had six points (three goals and three assists) in eight playoff games this year. He led the Rebels with 55 points during the regular season. In 49 games, he had 24 goals and 31 assists. He had a +19 +/- ratio. The 6’0”, 190 lb Kennett Square, PA native was named inaugural co-winner of the Rebels’ Best Offensive Player award. He was recognized by the league nine times during the regular season for weekly and/or monthly honors. He was named East Division Player of the Week three times for weeks ending December 13, January 31 and February 7.
“I’m honored and excited to further my hockey career and education at Boston College” stated Merulla. “It always has been a dream of mine to play for BC. I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, family and friends for everything they have done for me” concluded Merulla.
“I am happy for Mike” stated Rebels Head Coach Joe Coombs. “He had a great year, and he is going to a great program. He has worked very hard, and I am glad to see him go to Boston College” stated Coombs.
Boston College, located in Chestnut Hill, MA, is coached by Jerry York. The Eagles finished the 2015-16 season with an overall record of 24-5-5. Boston College won its last NCAA Division 1 National Championship in 2012.
