The Austin Bruins scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Rebels 4 – 2 in game one of the 20th Annual NAHL Showcase in Blaine, MN.
Max Marquette scored both Philadelphia’s goals.
Although there was no score in the opening period, Rebels netminder Lukas Fursten had to make several key saves to keep the contest even having stopped all eleven shots he faced.
Marquette opened the scoring at 8:44 of the second period. Shawn Ramsey brought the puck into the offensive zone along the near side boards and went towards the net. Ramsey then made a centering pass to Marquette in the slot, and Marquette took a wrist shot that trickled through the pads of Bruins goaltender Matthew MacArthur to make it a 1 – 0 game.
The Bruins then went onto score four straight goals beginning with Alex Laurenza’s powerplay goal from a wrist at the top of the far side faceoff circle that beat Fursten long side to even the score at one with 9:50 remaining in the middle stanza.
Entering the third period tied at one, the Bruins took a 2 – 1 lead at 2:35 into the final period. Austin’s Austin Salani redirected a shot from Giuseppe Fiorillo from the top of the near side faceoff circle that beat Fursten short side.
Forty-two seconds later, Austin’s Gustav Norén was standing on the doorstep and redirected a Dylan Cook pass from behind the goal line that beat Fursten short side to make it a 3 – 1 contest.
The Bruins took a 4 – 1 with 8:09 remaining in regulation when Matys Brassard took a wrist shot that beat Fursten long side for Brassard’s first goal of the season.
With 7:37 left in the contest, Marquette scored his second goal of the game when he brought the puck out of his own end, through center ice and into the offensive zone when he took a wrist shot from the top of the slot that beat MacArthur to cut the Rebels deficit in half and close out the scoring. It was Marquette’s third goal of the season.
Fursten turned aside 34 of 38 shots in defeat while MacArther stopped 15 of 17. Click here for the complete box score.
