Weekend Preview: Sep 22 & 23 – Rebels host Tomahawks in home opening weekend

The Rebels will be hosting their longtime rival the Johnstown Tomahawks this Friday, September 22 and Saturday, September 23 at the Hollydell Ice Arena. Puck drop is 7:30PM for both games.

It will be the Rebels home opening weekend with all fans receiving a FREE magnetic schedule both nights (while supplies last).

Tomahawks and Rebels Overview
These two teams were part of the original four that began the East Division back during the 2015-16 season, and they have a storied rivalry. Last year, Johnston won seven of the twelve games, but the Rebels outscored the Tomahawks 41 – 38.  Two of the Tomahawks’ wins were in overtime. The Rebels had a 4 – 2 home record against the Tomahawks, and they had a 1 – 5 road record.

Tomahawks Overview
Johnstown is currently in a three-way tie for fifth place in the East Division with a 3 – 3 record for six points. They are coming off a 5 – 2 loss to the Amarillo Wranglers. The Tomahawks went 2 – 2 during last weekend’s NAHL Showcase. They are 23rd in the league with 19 goals scored, and they are 26th in the league for allowing 19 goals as well. They scored six power play goals.

Forward Zach Aben leads the Tomahawks with five total points (4 goals and 1 assist) and goals (four). Three different players have a game winning goal. Justin Gibson has a team high +4 while Isaac Holt leads the team in penalty minutes with 19.

Tomahawks’ goalies Jacob Osborne and Zack Ferris have a combined 3.33 goals against average and a .903 save percentage with no shutouts.

Rebels Overview
The Rebels are part of the three-way tie for fifth place in the division with a 3 – 3 record. They are coming off a 3 – 2 loss to the Lone Star Brahmas at the Showcase where they went 2 – 2. The Rebels have scored 18 goals (11th in the league) and have allowed 17 (21st in the league). They have scored one powerplay goal.

Max Marquette lead Philadelphia with seven total points (4 goals and 3 assists) and goals (four). He also has a team high +6. Greg Spitznagel leads the team (second in the league) with 43 penalty minutes.

Netminders Jack Fialkoff and Lukas Fursten have a combined 2.66 goals against average and .866 save percentage with one shutout (Fursten).
