Greg Spitznagel had four points (1 goal and 3 assists) and Klaus Jogi had three (2 goals and 1 assist) to help lead the Rebels to a 5 – 3 win over the visiting Northeast Generals to complete a weekend sweep between the teams.

The victory evens the Rebels record to 7 – 7 on the season.

Spitznagel opened the scoring on a breakaway goal with 3:03 remaining in the first period. As Spitznagel’s boarding penalty was expiring, Max Hamstad intercepted a Northeast pass at his own slot. Hamstad turned and found a breaking Spitznagel out of the box and Summit, NJ native walked in all along on Generals goalie Marks Slavinskis-Repe and he deked around Slavinskis-Repe and lifted the puck into the back of the net to make it a 1 – 0 game.

The Rebels doubled their lead on Jogi’s first goal of the game at 2:10 of the second period. Jared Coccimiglio picked up the loose puck that had bounced off a Northeast player at the far side corner. Coccimiglio sent a backhanded pass along the end wall behind the Generals net to Spitznagel who turned and passed it out to Jogi in the slot and Jogi took a one-timer that beat Slavinskis-Repe.

The Generals’ Ryan Remick scored at 5:28 of the middle stanza to make it 2 – 1. After Northeast won the draw deep inside the Rebels zone, the puck was shot on net but Philadelphia netminder Lukas Fursten struggled to control the rebound and the biscuit came right out to Remick who tucked it into the net for his tenth goal of the season.

The Rebels regained their two-goal lead just fifty-two seconds into the third period on Jogi’s second goal of the game. Shawn Ramsey picked up the loose puck in the slot in his own zone and head manned it up to Spitznagel just outside the Generals zone. As Spitznagel gained the line on a 2-on-1 with Jogi on his left, Spitznagel passed the puck down low to Jogi who redirected the biscuit past a sprawled out Slavinskis-Repe and into the net.

The Generals brought the game within one at 7:23 into the period when Sixten Jennersjo sent a pass download from the near side half wall to Will Reardon who was slightly behind the back and left of Fursten. Reardon cut across the goal mouth and backhanded the puck through Fursten’s pads.

Less than a minute later, Coccimiglio made it 4 – 2. Spitznagel picked up the puck in the Generals far side corner and passed it back to Coccimiglio at the faceoff dot. Coccimiglio went around one Northeast and towards the net. As he reached the goal mouth, Coccimgilio deked around Slavinskis-Repe and backhanded the puck into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.

The teams exchanged goals at the end of the game when Northeast’s Ben Campeau scored on a tip in with 2:11 remaining in the contest, and then Kris Samitis hit the twine twenty-eight seconds later to make it 5 – 3 and close out the scoring.

Fursten stopped 37 of 40 shots while Slavinskis-Repe turned aside 28 of 33. Click here for the complete box score.
