Jan 1, 2024

Shawn Ramsey scored the lone goal in the shootout to give the Rebels a 6 – 5 win over the visiting Maine Nordiques to split the weekend series between the teams. Jared Coccimiglio scored a pair of goals in regulation.

The win snapped the Rebels five game losing streak.

Klaus Jogi scored just two minutes into the game after he won the draw just outside the Nordiques blueline. As Jogi gained the line he took a wrist shot the beat Maine goalie Carter Richardson high glove side to give the Rebels a 1 – 0 lead.

The lead was short lived, however, when Maine’s Liam Gilmartin scored 1:30 later after he picked up the loose puck in the paint and backhanded the biscuit up and over Rebels netminder Jakub Krbecek for Gilmartin’s fourth goal of the season.

Thomas Neu gave the Rebels a 2 – 1 lead at 4:41 into the opening period after he picked up the rebound in the slot and jammed the puck past Richerdson for Neu’s first goal as a Rebel.

Coccimiglio then scored two successive goals starting at 4:51 into the second period. His first tally he redirected a shot in the slot that was taken from Luke deVries front from the point for the Rebels first of two powerplay goals.

Coccimiglio then redirected a shot in the slot with nine minutes remaining in the second to give Rebels a 4 – 1 lead. It was Coccimiglio’s second of the game and Rebels second man advantage tally.

Just forty-one seconds later Maine’s Tomek Haula scored to cut the Nordiques deficit in half.

With four minutes remaining in the second, Paddy Fortune made a beautiful pass across the goal mouth that was redirected by Charles Panchisin and into the back of the net to give the Rebels a 5 – 2 lead.

What was thought to be the start of a blowout, Maine scored three unanswered goals in the third period to even the contest at five. Nils Forselius made it 5 – 3 at 2:54 into the final period and then Kellen Murphy scored two minutes later to make it 5 – 4. John Paul Steel scored with a minute and a half remaining in regulation to tie the contest at five and send it into overtime.

After a scoreless overtime, it went to a shootout where Ramsey scored the only goal in the skills competition to give the Rebels the 6 – 5 win.

Krbecek stopped 34 of 39 shots while Richardson turned aside 29 of 34. Click HERE for the complete box score.
