Weekend Preview: 1/19 & 1/20 – Rebels begin homestand starting with two games against Maryland

The Rebels will embark on a seven game homestand beginning this weekend with a two-game series against the Maryland Black Bears this Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 7:30PM at the Hollydell Ice Arena.

The Rebels will be home twelve of their next fourteen games. It is the last time this season that Maryland will be coming to the Dell.

Black Bears vs. Rebels Overview
The teams have split their previous four games although Maryland has outscored the Rebels 12 to 10.  The last time they played was back on December 8 and 9 at the Piney Orchard Arena with the Black Bears winning the second game of the two-game series by a score of 4 – 2. The first game of that series Charles Panchisin scored in a shootout to give the Rebels a 2 – 1 victory.

In the first four games, the Black Bears went 4 for 19 (21%) on the powerplay. Jesse Horacek leads Maryland with five total points (1 goal and 4 assists) against the Rebels while Riley Ruh has the most goals against Philadelphia (four). Netminders Owen Lepak and Colin Ronan have a combined 2.22 goals against average and .917 save percentage.

Black Bears Overview
Maryland is currently in second place in the East Division with an 25-7-2-3 record for 55 points. They are point behind division leading Maine but Maryland has a game in hand. They split last weekend’s road series against the Northeast Generals winning their last game 3 – 1. The Black Bears have won eight of their last ten games.

Maryland has scored 120 goals (8th in the league), and they have allowed 80 (3rd best in the league). They have converted on 18% of the chances on the man advantage (17th in the league), and their penalty kill is at .879% (second best in the league).

Rebels Overview
The Rebels are in eighth place in the East Division with a 14-20-0-1 record for 29 points. They are coming off a two-game road split against the Rochester Jr. Americans. They lost their last game 3 – 0 to the Jr. Americans. They have won three out of their past ten game.

Philadelphia has scored 102 goals (20th in the league), and they have allowed 129 (28th in the league). They have converted on 12% of the chances on the man advantage (29th in the league), and their penalty kill is at .812% (20th in the league).

Panchisin leads the team with 30 total points (11 goals and 19 assists) while Kris Samitis has a team high twelve goals. Samitis also has the most game winning goals on the team with two.  Shawn Ramsey has a team best +14. Julian Brown has the most penalty minutes with 64.
