MIDDLETOWN, N.J. — The Philadelphia Rebels earned their first win of the season Wednesday afternoon, defeating the New Jersey Titans 5-1 at Middletown Sports Complex.
Dylan Moran opened the scoring midway through the first period during 4-on-4 play, beating Simon Krcmar from long range to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead.
Ryder O’Neil answered just seconds later for New Jersey to tie the game at 1, but the Rebels regained the lead in the closing moments of the period. Zach Greenlund found the puck in a net-mouth scramble and fired a backhand home with 30 seconds remaining, sending Philadelphia into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead.
The Rebels wasted little time extending the lead in the second. Marshall Swanson scored just 24 seconds into the period to make it 3-1.
Gavin Wakeland added to the advantage approximately six minutes later, scoring on the power play to give Philadelphia a 4-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
Paxton Couture capped the scoring with five minutes remaining in the third. After giving the puck away, Couture stole it right back and fired a shot home to make it 5-1.

Mathieu Raymond stopped 28 of 29 shots to earn his first NAHL win. Philadelphia and New Jersey each finished with 29 shots on goal.
“It feels great,” Raymond said. “Get the season rolling. It wasn’t pretty today, but the boys got together and got the job done.”
The afternoon also featured several milestones for Philadelphia, with Greenlund, Wakeland and Couture each recording their first NAHL goals.
The victory improved Philadelphia to 1-2-0-0 and handed New Jersey its first loss of the season. The Rebels return home Friday to rematch the Titans at Hollydell Ice Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
