Four players – Charles Panchisin, Billy Sheridan, Charlie Spencer and Jared Coccimiglio – scored to lead the Rebels to a 4 – 1 win over the visiting Danbury Hat Tricks to snap Philadelphia’s five game losing streak. The victory enabled the Rebels to split the weekend series with the Rabbits.
Despite no scoring in the first period, it was a fast and furious pace in which both teams combined to take 26 shots but Rebels netminder Beau Lane and his counterpart Jack Fialkoff kept their opponent off the board.
Panchisin was able to break the ice at 5:38 into the second period. Playing four-on-four hockey, After Ryan Vaites picked up the loose puck at the top of his own far side faceoff circle, he head manned the biscuit to Brock Jones who cut through center ice and into the offensive zone. As Jones skated down the far side boards he cut towards the net and made a backhanded pass to Vaites in the slot. Vaites took a shot that was saved by Fialkoff but the rebound came right out to Panchisin on the door step who shot it into the open net to make it a 1 – 0 game. It was Panchisin’s third goal of the season and first since September 21 against Johnstown.
With 2:02 remaining in the middle stanza, Danbury’s Ty Izadi was called for interference to give the Rebels the man advantage. As the powerplay and period were winding down, Sheridan doubled the score with nineteen seconds remaining. After Danbury dumped the puck deep into the Rebels zone, it was picked up by Luke Janviriya who immediately made a tap pass to Panchisin. As Panchisin picked up speed through the neutral zone, he dished the biscuit off to a breaking Ryan Bunting on his left. As Bunting gained the line, he passed the puck to Coccimiglio on his left at the top of the slot. Coccimiglio went towards the bottom of the far side faceoff circle and made a saucer pass to Sheridan in the slot and Sheridan redirect the biscuit into the back of the net for third goal of the season as well.
Spencer game the Rebels a 3 – 0 lead just 1:02 into the third period. After Spencer picked up the loose puck in own end, he made a cross-ice pass to Vaites who skated through center ice and into the offensive zone. As Vaites gained the line, he made a drop pass to Thomas Neu. Neu went to the far side faceoff circle and took a shot that was redirected out front by Spencer and past Fialkoff for Spencer’s first of the season.
Danbury’s Mike Sciabarra put the visitors on the board at 6:03 in the third. As the Rebels tried to breakout of their own end, Sciabarra intercepted a pass at the top of the slot and passed the puck up to Ben Dempster, who sent a return pass to Sciabarra on his left and Sciabarra took a wrist shot from just inside the far side faceoff circle that beat Lane long side to make it a 3 – 1 game.
Coccimiglio closed out the scoring with 1:44 remaining in the game when he picked up a deep rebound in the slot and slammed it past Fialkoff to close out the scoring and make it 4- 1. It was Coccimiglio’s third of the season.
Lane, who recorded his first victory between the pipes as a Rebel, stopped 29 of 30 shots while Fialkoff turned aside 36 of 40. Click HERE for the complete box score.
The Rebels will travel to Elmira next week to take on the expansion Aviators and then return home to play five of their next seven games at the Hollydell Ice Arena.
