Maryland’s Dimitry Kebreau scored 5:11 into the final period to lead the visiting Black Bears to a 1 – 0 win over the Rebels in a classic goaltenders’ duel.
It was the Rebels third straight loss, and the fourth time this season they have been shutout. Despite the defeat, the Rebels played the first place Black Bears very tight and fought extremely hard.
The game was end to end and fast but Maryland’s Owen Lepak and the Rebels Jakub Krbecek played superb between the pipes to keep their respective team in the game. Both goalies combined to stop 58 of 59 shots, with Krbecek turning aside 40 of 41.
The game was scoreless going into the third before Kebreau’s goal. Maryland’s Sam Stitz brought the puck into the offensive zone and took a wrist shot that was saved by Krbecek, who then had to make three more successive saves. After the fourth consecutive save, the rebound came out into the slot and was picked up by Max Marquette but he was stripped of the puck by Kebreau who shot the biscuit up and over the fallen Rebels goalie and into the net for the game’s only goal.
