It was an off day for the Rebels to get some much needed rest to allow our bodies to recover. The only things we had scheduled were meals. Otherwise we had the day to do what we wanted.
After eating breakfast, a big group of us decided to take a walk around the area and do a bit of exploring. Alaska makes up for its cold weather with its very beautiful scenery and cool wild animals. The walk took us into the woods along the Kanai River. As we were walking along we saw what looked to be an animal ahead of us. As we got closer we found that it was a mother moose and its young calf. We quietly inched as close as we could and came within feet of the moose. We quickly took some pictures and left them to be, as we didn’t want to scare them and put ourselves in danger.
After the exciting walk we refueled with some lunch. After lunch we had down time in the hotel. Some guys got caught up on their school work while others played Brennan Kapcheck’s Xbox. In the evening we all walked over to the local movie theater to catch the movie “Split.” It then was time to get some sleep so that we could wake up ready to have a good week of practice in preparation for next weekend’s games against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
