The North American Hockey League announced its 2023-24 Year End Awards today and Rebels captain Sonny DiNubile received the League’s Leadership Award while netminder Jakub Krbecek was named to the All-NAHL East Division team.
DiNubile, who made his NCAA commitment in early April to Neumann University, played two seasons with the Rebels. He had 39 total points (6 goals and 33 assists) in 116 games played. He is twelfth on the Rebels all-time games played list.
He received weekly/monthly league recognition four times this season. He was honorable mention for the NAHL’s East Division’s Star of the Week for weeks ending November 19, February 4 and 11, and he was honorable mention for defenseman of the month for February.
“I am extremely proud of Sonny” said Rebels head coach and general manager Justin Hale. “He is a guy that has done it the right way. Sonny does extra both on and off the ice and is constantly trying to improve himself. He was always the first guy to welcome players into our locker room, pull a guy aside to help out, and worked to both push and hold his peers accountable. Our room benefitted each day he was around our group” stated Hale.
Krbecek appeared in 75 games in two seasons with the Rebels posting a 36-30-3 record with a 2.57 goals against average and .926 save percentage with six shutouts.
He was named to the 2022-23 NAHL Second All-Team. This season he was recognized twice by the league. He was the East Division’s Second Star of the Week for week ending March 31 and honorable mention for goalie of the month in January.
The Praha, CZE native is committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology.
“Jakub was a top performer” added Hale. “Every night he stepped foot in the net, he gave our team a chance to win. Jakub was a student of the game and worked hard at his craft. It’s a well-deserved honor and very happy for him to have received this recognition” concluded Hale.
