Five-Goal Third for the Rebels Leads to 6-1 Win

Apr 7, 2023

SEWELL, NJ – On the heels of their 2-1 overtime win on Thursday night, the Philadelphia Rebels hit the ice again on Friday night at Hollydell Ice Arena, hosting the Johnstown Tomahawks. Friday night featured the same outcome: a Rebels win. This time, it was a resounding 6-1 victory.

A fast start in the third propelled Philadelphia with three early goals in the period. Overall, the Rebels scored five goals in the third.

Jakub Krbecek stopped 27-28 shots from Johnstown, the second consecutive game he has only allowed one goal.

The first period featured multiple power plays for each team, but ended in the Tomahawks taking a 1-0 lead into the locker room. Johnny Ulicny scored on a 2-on-1 rush for the Tomahawks while shorthanded.

An early power-play goal in the second for Johnstown was waved off due to interference with Rebels goaltender Jakub Krbecek.

Not much later, a Johnstown miscue resulted in the puck going into the Hawks empty net on a delayed penalty. The goal was credited to Brock Jones, his fifth of the year, and the Rebels immediately went to the penalty kill.

Jones scored again 15 seconds into the third period, giving the Rebels a 2-1 lead with 19:45 left in regulation. Minutes later, it was Tyler Stern getting on the board, giving the Rebels a two-goal lead with just under 15 to play in the third period. Kris Samitis’ power-play goal put the Rebels up by three goals with 13:20 left to play in regulation.

An empty-net goal from Charles Panchisin extended the lead to 5-1. Panchisin would later score on a breakaway, resulting in the 6-1 final.

In total, there were 12 power plays: five for Philadelphia and seven for Johnstown. There were two empty net goals.

Tomorrow’s contest will begin at 3 p.m. at Hollydell Ice Arena–the Rebels final home game of the 2022-23 campaign. The game is available to stream on HockeyTV. Tomorrow is also fan appreciation day at the arena, and the game will be followed by a postgame skate with the team, autographs, and more.
