Hanson Named NAHL’s Second Star of the Week

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week for week ending January 3, 2016. Rebels’ goalie Darion Hanson was named second star for the East Division while forward Michael Merulla was named honorable mentioned.

Hanson had a big night between the pipes against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on Sunday, January 3rd. He stopped 56 of 58 shots that help propel the Rebels to gain a weekend split with the Ice Dogs. This is the second time Hanson has been recognized by the league. He was name the East Division Star of the Week for week ending November 2, 2015.

Merulla had three points in two games this past weekend against the Ice Dogs. He had two points on Sunday night’s game. The final point help set up Ryan Cusin’s empty net goal. This is the third time this season that Merulla has been recognized by the league. He was named honorable mentioned for week ending November 22, and he was named the East Division Star of the Week for week ending December 13.
