Hanson Named to All NAHL Rookie 1st Team

Apr 26, 2016

The North American Hockey League (NAHL) announced today its All-Rookie Teams for the 2015-16 season, as voted upon and selected by the league’s head coaches. The NAHL has also named All-Rookie Teams in each of the four divisions. Rebels’ goalie Darion Hanson was named the goalie for the all NAHL rookie first team.

In addition to being named to the all NAHL rookie first team, Hanson and defenseman Gvido Jansons were named to the East Division All-Rookie team.

Hanson, who just committed to Union College this past Sunday, had a 21-11-0 record during the regular season. He had a 2.28 goals against average and .914 save percentage. He had three shutouts (all against New Jersey). He was recognized by the league throughout the season as honorable mention, second star or star of the week/month for the East Division. Hanson won the Rebels’ Rookie of the Year award during Fan Appreciation Night.

Jansons, the left-hand shot defenseman, had 20 points on the season (7 goals and 13 assists). He had a +13 +/- ratio. He was named the NAHL Defenseman of the Month for September.

NAHL players that have not played in a junior league prior to the 2015-16 season (any junior league in any location), or entered the season having played less than 10 NAHL hockey regular season games, are considered rookies and eligible for All-Rookie recognition and honors by the NAHL.
