Johnstown Blanks Rebels 4 – 0

Mar 25, 2016

The Johnstown Tomahawks’ Andrew Lindgren played well during his team’s two losses to the Rebels last weekend. Last night he stood on his head but had a different out come as Lindgren played exceptionally well leading his team to a 4 – 0 win over the Rebels at IceWorks. Despite the loss, the Rebels remain tied for first with New Jersey who loss to Fairbanks.

The Rebels peppered Lindgren all night but it was the first period that set the tone of the game. The game was up and down with Lindgren only facing just three shots within the first 10 minutes of the game. Then Tomahawks forward Tommy Horn threw a shot on goal that was redirected by Zak Galambos passed Rebels goalie Darion Hanson to put the visitors up 1 – 0. It was the eventual game winner.

Despite being down 1 – 0 with half of the first period left, the Rebels continued the onslaught of shots with a total of 10 in the opening stanza but Lindgren turned them all away.

The second period was pretty much the same. The Rebels pressured but Lindgren was there to turn aside the shots. With less then two minutes left in the second, the Tomahawks scored two goals to put the game away, both on back door pass goals. First, Andrew Romano skated into the zone and found an open Kelly O’Brien who one-timed it passed Hanson. Then with a second left in the period after Gvido Jansons was called for interference, Niko Coffman passed it down low and found Ryan Burr who one-timed it passed Hanson giving the Hawks a 3 – 0 lead going into the third.

Rebels coach Joe Coombs tied to shake things up to start the third period as he replaced Hanson with Trevor Micucci, who was seeing his first action between the pipes in seven games. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough as Luke Lynch scored with three minutes remaining to finalize the 4 – 0 score.

It was Lindgren’s second shut out of the season. He stopped all 32 shots while Hanson saved 13 while Micucci stopped three. Click here for the box score.

The two teams are back at it again tonight at 7pm. It will be the final regular season game between each other. It’s Photo Night with the Rebels. All fans can have their picture taken with their favorite Rebel(s) immediately following the game.
