ODENTON, MD- A 47-save shutout from Jakub Krbecek led the Philadelphia Rebels (19-22-2-1, 40 pts) to a 1-0 victory on Friday night over the division-leading Maryland Black Bears (30-12-4-0, 64 pts).
Krbecek was sensational throughout the entire night, stopping 16 shots in the first, 19 in the second and 12 in the third. His dominance allowed David Deputy’s 16th of the season 5:30 into the third to hold up as the difference.
Though Philadelphia had just 13 shots throughout the night, they came away with the victory.
Stellar goaltending from Krbecek kept the Rebels in the game the entire night, and even after two periods of Maryland pressure, the game headed into the last period scoreless.
That is when Deputy took a pass from Klaus Jogi and buried it into the back of the net. It was Deputy’s third point in the two games this week.
Krbecek was the star in this game, recording his first career NAHL shutout against one of the most lethal offenses in the league.
The Rebels have now split the first two games of the week against Maryland and will look to win the series in Saturday night’s rubber match. The game can be seen live on HockeyTV at 7:30 p.m.
