SEWELL, NJ – The Philadelphia Rebels (23-24-1-1, 48 pts) and the Maine Nordiques (28-17-2-1, 59 pts) will wrap up their weekend series Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Hollydell Ice Arena.
Coming into the weekend series the Rebels looked to stay hot behind stellar goaltending from Jakub Krbecek. Before Friday night’s contest, Krbecek recorded four straight shutouts and five in his last six games. Krbecek’s 261 minute and 37 second shutout streak came to an end Friday night in the 2-1 loss and ended the Rebels’ four-game winning streak.
This series was the first time the teams have met since a weekend series back in early February.
Despite outshooting Maine Friday night, Philadelphia was unable to beat Thomas Heaney in net for the Nordiques for most of the night before a goal with 1:33 left by Max Hamstad. The Rebels also had three power-play chances in the game and were unable to capitalize.
Philadelphia will look to generate more offense Saturday to wrap up the series and try to salvage a split as they push for the playoffs with just 11 games remaining.
After Saturday the two teams will meet for one last series on April 14th and April 15th for the Rebels’ last games of the regular season. Saturday’s series finale can be seen live on HockeyTV and admission is free for all fans.
