SEWELL, NJ – The Philadelphia Rebels (3-8-0-1, 7 pts) fell 3-2 in a shootout to the New Jersey Titans (7-8-0-0, 14 pts) Friday evening.
Kris Samitis (2) fueled the Rebels’ offense in the contest, scoring two goals in the second period. The first goal was scored at the 14:40 mark to knot the game up at one apiece. Four minutes later Ben Muthersbaugh scored his second of the game to give the Titans the lead right back.
It wasn’t until Samitis (3) was able to find the back of the net on a power play to tie the game up at 2-2 with under three minutes in the period. The score would stay that way as the two teams headed into the final frame evened up.
The third period was a defensive battle as both teams had opportunities but were unable to capitalize. Regulation would prove to not be enough and the two teams would head to overtime, the Rebels’ second overtime of the season.
The scoring drought continued through overtime and both teams prepared for their first shootout of the season thus far. The Titans were able to come away with the shootout victory with goals by Anthony Calafiore and Michael Young. The Rebels’ two shooters were unable to convert in the shootout.
Jakub Krebeck stopped 19 of the 21 shots he faced in the net for the Rebels, logging his third consecutive appearance allowing two goals or less.
The Rebels are still looking for their first win at Hollydell Ice Arena and they will have another opportunity on Saturday as they face the Titans again at home. Gametime is at 8 p.m. with free admission for all fans. The game can be seen live on MyHockey TV.
