BLAINE, MN – The Philadelphia Rebels (0-0-0-0, 0 pts) kick off their inaugural campaign on Wednesday against the Corpus Christi Ice Rays (0-0-0-0, 0 pts) at the 2022 NAHL Showcase.
Throughout the preseason, the Rebels won three of four games, including a 4-3 win over the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms.
In their two divisional preseason games, the Rebels defeated the Johnstown Tomahawks and the New Jersey Titans.
Head Coach Justin Hale is excited about the fresh start for the Rebels in their first season.
“We’ve talked all preseason about new beginnings and that is exactly what this week represents,” Hale said. “We want to make the most of this new beginning.
The Rebels tout multiple players with experience in the North American Hockey League including forward Maxwell Hamstad and defenseman Joe Calvarino.
Hamstad recorded the highest point total of the players who made the transition from Jamestown to Philadelphia. In 2021-22, Hamstad scored 12 times and recorded 25 total points for the Jamestown Rebels.
Calvarino, a University of Vermont commit, also made the trek from Jamestown to Philadelphia. A year ago, the defenseman amassed a plus-6 rating and added 18 points offensively.
As the season begins with the annual NAHL Showcase, Philadelphia will take the ice against a Corpus Christi team that finished seventh in its division a year ago.
Wednesday’s game begins at 8:30 ET/7:30 CT in Blaine, MN and can be seen on HockeyTV.
