JOHNSTOWN, PA – The Philadelphia Rebels (23-27-2-1, 49 pts) finished their three-game weekend road series with a 4-3 loss against the Johnstown Tomahawks (26-23-3-1, 56 pts) on Sunday afternoon.
The Rebels were within one score four times throughout Sunday’s contest, and fell just short as Johnstown was able to answer each of the Rebels goals.
Johnstown continued the heavy offensive attack from Saturday night into Sunday afternoon, and got on the board first with a power-play goal from Anthony Galante nearly nine minutes into the opening period.
Just two minutes later, Johnstown added another to make it a 2-0 game.
The Rebels found their offense just a minute and a half into the second period, where Connor Sedlak took advantage of the power play and scored his team-leading 20th goal of the season to cut the Tomahawks lead in half.
However, nearly halfway through the second period Will Moore gave Johnstown their two-goal lead right back, just seconds after the Rebels killed a two-minute power play.
Despite going down two scores into the final period, the Rebels offense didn’t show any quit. David Deputy scored his 18th goal of the season just five minutes into the third period, and put the Rebels back within one score.
Deputy now has goals in consecutive games, and is just three points (39) shy of being the team-leader.
Just as the Rebels were right back into the game with their second goal, the Tomahawks pulled away once more to make it a 4-2 game.
With short time left in regulation, the Rebels scored once again to make it a one-goal game with the goalie pulled. This time it was Max Marquette, who scored his eighth goal of the season to put the pressure back on Johnstown.
The Rebels created a couple last chances, but could not find the tying goal in the final 45 seconds.
The Rebels will meet the Tomahawks for another three-game series starting on April 6, which will be played in the Hollydell Ice Arena.
