Rebels Cruise to 5-2 Win in Season Finale

Apr 15, 2023

LEWISTON, ME – In the final game of the season, the Philadelphia Rebels (27-30-2-1, 57 pts) took down the  Maine Nordiques (33-24-2-1, 69 pts) with a 5-2 victory.

After taking an early penalty, David Deputy jumped out of the box, collected a Max Marquette pass, and scored on a breakaway giving the Rebels a 1-0 lead. The goal for Deputy was his 22nd of the season and his 50th point of the campaign. Deputy also was the only Rebel to play in all 60 games.

Shortly after, Max Hamstad scored his 15th of the season from a Connor Sedlak pass. Hamstad’s goal extended the lead to 2-0 before the midway point in the first period.

A Nordiques goal cut the lead to 2-1 later in the period.

Carter Casper’s power-play goal late in the first period sent Philadelphia to the room with a 3-1 lead after one period.

Hamstad’s second goal in the final minute of the second period extended the lead to 4-1 heading into the final period of play in the Rebels inaugural season in the NAHL.

Jakub Krbecek ended the season as the NAHL’s leader for goalies in games and total saves, tied for third in save percentage, and second in minutes played. He made 29 saves on Saturday night to pick up his 25th win of the season.

Deputy scored again for Philadelphia in the third, making it 5-1. The four-goal lead was short lived however, as Maine answered quickly making it 5-2 not even a minute later.

After that, the Rebels held their three-goal lead the rest of the way to finish off the season-ending victory.

The season spanned 213 days, and just like the Rebels started on Sept. 14 with a 5-2 victory over Corpus Christi, Philadelphia heads home for the summer with a 5-2 win over the Nordiques.
