ODENTON, MD – On Saturday night, the Philadelphia Rebels (19-23-1-1, 40 pts) capped off their two-game weekend series with the Maryland Black Bears (31-12-4-0, 66 pts). After getting a 1-0 win on Friday night, the Rebels dropped the second game 3-0, splitting the series with the Black Bears.
A night after posting a 50-save shutout, Rebels goalie Jakub Krbecek stopped all but two of the 31 shots he faced. Krbecek was able to keep his team in the game and ended the weekend allowing just two goals in two games.
Christian Catalano opened the scoring in the game for Maryland halfway through the first period. He scored on a delayed penalty while the Black Bears had an extra skater out on the ice and an empty net.
Catalano’s goal was the only one of the first two periods. Then, close to the midpoint in the third period, Maryland extended its lead to 2-0 on a goal from Samuel Stitz.
Three Philadelphia power plays in the third period resulted in the Rebels creating their best chances of the game, but they were unable to solve William Hakansson in Maryland’s net.
An empty-netter for Maryland with just over a minute remaining resulted in the 3-0 final score.
The Rebels are back on the ice Tuesday as they hit the road to take on the New Jersey Titans. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tune into MyHockeyTV as the Rebels look to close out February with a win.
