Rebels Fall to Generals in Physical Series Finale

Jan 11, 2026

The Philadelphia Rebels fell to the Northeast Generals, 5–1, on Saturday night at Hollydell Ice Arena, splitting the weekend series.

Northeast set the tone early, scoring twice in the first period to grab control of the game. The Generals continued to apply pressure in the second, adding another goal to take a 3–0 lead into the final intermission. Philadelphia pushed back in the middle frame, generating sustained zone time and outshooting Northeast 11–4 in the period, but was unable to break through.

The Generals extended their lead early in the third period with two more goals to make it 5–0. Shortly after, the game turned chippy and physical, culminating in a large on-ice scrum that resulted in numerous penalties and game misconducts on both benches, leading to an extended stoppage of play.

Philadelphia eventually broke through later in the third. Defenseman Ethan McKay fired a shot from the point that Justin Vlassis redirected in front of the net, tipping the puck past the goaltender to put the Rebels on the board and spoil the shutout.

Despite the final score, the Rebels generated 25 shots on goal and had multiple chances to climb back into the game.

Ilja Nikitins got the start in goal for Philadelphia, stopping nine shots before Ben Varsa came on in relief. Varsa made 13 saves over the final 40 minutes of action. Northeast goaltender Will Mizenko was strong throughout, stopping 24 shots to earn the win.

Philadelphia will return to action next Friday as it hits the road to square off against the Maine Nordeques.
