Rebels fall to Tomahawks 4 – 1

Nov 12, 2023

Johnstown’s Chase Sandhu scored consecutive goals to lead the Tomahawks to a 4 – 1 win over the visiting Rebels to complete the weekend sweep between the teams.

The Tomahawks have won all four games against Philadelphia so far this season by a combined score of 15 – 5. The Rebels have yet to score on the man advantage, last night going 0 for 7 and are 0 for 14 in the four games.

It appeared as if the first period would end scoreless, but Johnstown’s Nick White gave the Tomahawks a 1 – 0 lead with one second remaining in it. As time was winding down in the first, Shawn Ramsey made a long outlet pass from his own far side faceoff circle and the puck was gloved down by Johnstown’s Isaac Holt in the Tomahawks zone. Holt turned and passed the biscuit up to Zach Aben at center ice who redirected it into the offensive zone. White was able to outskate a Rebels defenseman and picked up the puck in the slot, and as he skated through the goalmouth White slid the rubber through the five hole of Jack Fialkoff for White’s fifth goal of the season.

The Tomahawks doubled their lead with a powerplay goal at 5:30 of the second. Julian Brown was called for cross-checking at 5:04 into the middle stanza and twenty-six seconds Johnstown’s Will Lawrence scored his fifth goal of the season after receiving a nice feed from Will Moore through the goal mouth and Lawrence redirected the biscuit into the back of the net for the Tomahawks second man advantage goal of the weekend.

Klaus Jogi cut the Rebels deficit in half just 1:37 into the third period. Billy Sheridan blocked a shot at the top of his own slot and brought the puck through center ice and into the offensive zone. As Sheridan gained the line, he passed the biscuit to Jared Coccimiglio on his left. Coccimiglio took a wrist shot from the slot that was saved by Johnstown’s netminder Zach Ferris, but the puck went off Ferris’ right pad and directly to Jogi who slammed it in the back of the cage for his sixth goal of the season.

The Tomahawks answered just thirty-five seconds later on Sandhu’s first of the game. Johnstown’s Dylan Shane skated the puck up along the far side boards in the Rebels zone and made a cross-ice pass to Sandhu who took a wrist shot that beat a moving Fialkoff short side to make it a 3 – 1 contest.

Sandhu scored an empty net goal with fifty-two seconds remaining in the game to close out the scoring and make it 4 – 1.

Fialkoff stopped 21 of 24 shots while Ferris turned aside 30 of 31. Click here for the complete box score.

The Rebels will continue their four game road trip next weekend when they travel to Danbury and take on the Jr. Hat Tricks for a two-game series. It will be the first time the teams will meet this season.
