ODENTON, Md. — The Philadelphia Rebels couldn’t find the back of the net Tuesday morning, falling 2-0 to the division-leading Maryland Black Bears at Piney Orchard Ice Arena.
Despite a strong effort from goaltender Ilja Nikitins, who stopped 33 of 35 shots, the Rebels were limited to just 10 shots on goal in the loss. Maryland’s Brady Anes opened the scoring in the first period, and Harrison Smith added insurance late in the third to seal the win for the Black Bears.
Neither team converted on the power play, with the Rebels going 0-for-4 and Maryland finishing 0-for-2. Philadelphia’s penalty kill was sharp, but the offense couldn’t generate sustained pressure against goaltender Dom Gatto, who recorded the shutout for Maryland.
The Rebels (5-9-0-1) will look to regroup and snap their six-game skid when they return home for their next matchup on Friday against the New Jersey Titans.
