MIDDLETOWN, NJ – The Philadelphia Rebels (16-18-1-1, 34 pts) completed the sweep and defeated the New Jersey Titans (23-13-1-2, 49 pts) 3-2 in an eight-round shootout on Saturday night.
The Rebels and Titans finished their second home-and-home series in the past three weeks on Saturday night. The win started a long road-stretch for the Rebels who will play seven of their next eight games away from home.
The Rebels have won six out of the past eight road matchups, and on Saturday, Kris Samitis scored the game-winning goal in the eighth round of shootout.
The Titans jumped out to an early lead just as they did on Friday night, but the Rebels were able to rally back once again to complete the sweep.
After Robert Hyde scored 10 minutes into the opening period and gave the Titans the lead, Tyler Stern answered just three minutes later for his seventh goal of the season. Stern has goals in three-straight contests.
In the second period, Michael Young took the lead back for New Jersey just over halfway through the period, but Connor Sedlak responded with a break-away goal and his team-leading 14th of the season to tie it back up at 2-2.
Jakub Krbecek saved 30 out of 32 shots for the Rebels and added seven more in the shootout.
The Rebels will be back on the ice next Friday when they travel to Maine to square off against the Nordiques.
