MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Goaltender Jack Fialkoff saved all three shootout chances against as the Philadelphia Rebels defeated the New Jersey Titans on Saturday 2-1 in a shootout.

The teams skated to a scoreless first 40 minutes before New Jersey broke through in the third period to take a 1-0 lead.

Just minutes later, a Matt Lewis forecheck led to a turnover by New Jersey. Lewis regained control in the neutral zone and launched a shot off New Jersey goaltender Zak Brice’s shoulder. The puck bounced to Max Marquette at the right circle and the Rebels forward found the empty cage to tie the game at 1.

Neither team could grab the lead back in the final minutes and the game entered an overtime period. After an early save from Fialkoff, the Rebels threatened, but could not score.

In the shootout, Greg Spitznagel opened the scoring in the first attempt with a five-hole goal. Fialkoff made all three saves to hold down the win for Philadelphia.

The Rebels are back in action on Thursday, Sept. 8th against the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms.
