The Rebels are pleased to announce the signing of HC Dallas 18U goalie Hunter Smith to a NAHL Tender contract for the 2016-17 season.
The Flower Mound, TX native, 18, led the NAPHL 18U Division this season with a 94.8% save percentage and was fifth in goals against average with a 1.59%. He also had three shutouts. During the 2015-16 season, Smith faced a total of 406 shots in 14 appearances (29 shots per game) and allowed just 21 goals during the season. Smith (6’1/198) played in the 2015-16 NAPHL 18U All-Star Game in Troy, MI this past January. At the conclusion of the season, Smith was named to the All-NAPHL 18U 2nd Team. He has also been an NAPHL All-Academic Selection the past two seasons.
“Playing juniors is a large step in any player's career” stated Smith. “I'm honored I get the opportunity to take that step with the Rebels" concluded Smith.
“I like Hunter” said Rebels head coach Joe Coombs. “He is a big goalie that challenges the shooter and doesn’t give up on the puck. He is aggressive and he’ll do well” concluded Coombs.
