SEWELL, NJ- The Philadelphia Rebels (4-10-0-1, 9 pts) wrapped up their weekend series against the Maine Nordiques (8-7-0-0, 16 pts) Saturday night with a 6-3 loss.
The Rebels were unable to slow down the Nordiques red hot offense throughout the contest.
The Rebels found themselves in a 2-0 hole early when Maine scored two goals 11 seconds apart about halfway through the first. Patrick Schmiedlin scored the initial goal and Oliver Genest followed that up a handful of seconds later.
The Rebels had opportunities in the first but were unable to capitalize. Their best shot came from Maxwell Hamstad when the Rebels had a two-on-one and he hit the post. The Rebels also squandered a powerplay and found themselves heading into the first intermission down by a pair of goals.
Philadelphia was able to score two goals in the second period, but also gave up another pair. Luke deVries got the scoring started in the second with his first goal of the season on the powerplay to help pull the Rebels within one
The Nordiques would answer with two goals of their own from Henrik Hallberg and Sterling Wolters to push Maine’s lead to three. Maxwell Hamstad helped trim the deficit to 4-2 with his fourth goal of the season as the Rebels headed into the intermission trailing by two after a second period that accounted for four total goals.
The two teams traded goals in the third period. Matt Lewis scored his third of the season for the Rebels. Oliver Genest scored for Maine as well in the period. Hallberg added a late empty-netter, his second goal of the game, to ice the game for the Nordiques and push their winning streak to six.
Philadelphia will head down to Maryland next weekend for an away series against the Black Bears.
