Hollydell Ice Arena and the Philadelphia Rebels today announced that the team will honor former assistant coach Matthew Gaudreau and his brother Johnny before the Rebels home opener on Friday, September 13th. Game time is 7:30PM with the doors opening at 6:30 PM.
Matthew and Johnny grew up at Hollydell Ice Arena. Their father Guy was Hollydell’s hockey director for decades, teaching countless kids to skate and play hockey. It goes without saying that Johnny and Matthew were two of his most successful students. Both boys played in the USHL before moving on to star at Boston College and play professionally. After Matthew retired from professional hockey, he returned to his roots and began his coaching career with the Tier 2 junior programs playing out of Hollydell, most recently the Philadelphia Rebels.
Johnny and Matthew have inspired countless young players at Hollydell, in South Jersey and across the country. We will be forever grateful for their impact on the game of hockey.
