Maine’s netminder Carter Richardson stopped all 29 shots he faced to lead the Nordiques to a 3 – 0 win over the visiting Rebels to complete the weekend sweep between the teams. Matthew Lewis had a pair of goals for Maine.
It was the Rebels fourth straight loss, and it was the second time this season they were shutout (Johnstown 1 – 0 on back on September 23).
Lewis scored the eventual game winner at 6:49 of the first period. Maine’s Ryan Panico blocked a Rebels shot along the far side boards just inside his own zone. Panico turned and made a cross-ice pass to Lewis who skated through center ice and into the offensive zone. As Lewis gained the line, he took a snapshot that beat Rebels netminder Jakub Krbecek long side to make it a 1 – 0 game.
The Nordiques doubled their lead on Lewis’ second goal of the game with 2:44 remaining in the middle stanza. Maine’s Aiden Dixon started the play at the top of his own near side faceoff circle and sent a bounce pass off the wall where it was picked up by Lewis. As Lewis gained the line, he cut towards the goalmouth and slid the puck through Krbecek’s five hole for Lewis’ fourth goal of the season.
Maine’s Liam Gilmartin scored with 6:43 remaining in the contest to close out the scoring and make it a 3 – 0 game.
Krbecek turned aside 25 of 28 shots. Click here for the complete box score.
The Rebels now will go on a short hiatus for the holiday break. They will return to Hollydell the 26th or 27th of this month and get ready to close out December and 2023 with a pair of games on December 30 and 31st against the same Maine Nordiques.
