SEWELL, N.J. —The Rochester Jr. Americans jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Philadelphia Rebels 4-1 on Saturday night at Hollydell Ice Arena. Rochester improved to 7-6-0-0 with the win, while Philadelphia dropped its fifth straight, falling to 5-8-0-1.

The Americans opened the scoring in the first period and carried that momentum into the second, scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead. Philadelphia’s lone goal came midway through the second period, courtesy of Charlie Spencer, who converted on the power play to cut the deficit to 2-1. However, Rochester responded with two insurance goals to secure the win.

Ryan Shaw and Owen King led the charge for Rochester, each tallying two goals. Florian Wade was strong in net for the Americans, stopping 12 of 13 shots while helping his team withstand the Rebels’ limited but persistent offensive pressure.

Philadelphia’s Ben Varsa made 37 saves over 46:31 before Ilja Nikitins finished the game in relief, stopping all three shots he faced. Despite Varsa’s performance, Philadelphia was overmatched in shots on goal, falling 44-13 over the course of the game.

Special teams played a role in Rochester’s victory, as the Americans converted three of six power-play opportunities. Philadelphia managed only one goal on four man-advantage chances. Penalties were a significant factor, with the Rebels racking up 32 minutes and Rochester 30, including multiple fighting majors and game ejections.

The loss marks the fifth consecutive defeat for Philadelphia, extending a troubling skid as they continue to search for rhythm and consistency in the East Division.

The Rebels are back in action on Tuesday as they hit the road to battle Maryland.
