Sedlak’s Overtime Goal Earns a Rebels Win

Nov 18, 2022

DANBURY, CT-  The Philadelphia Rebels (5-13-0-1, 11 pts) won Friday night off a Connor Sedlak game-winning overtime goal against the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks (2-18-1-1, 5 pts) by a score of 2-1.

The goal was a little sweeter for Sedlak who was celebrating a birthday Friday.

The Rebels had ample opportunities to score in the first period. They outshot Danbury 13 to nine in the period. Connor Sedlak and Dominic Foglia, making his debut after a trade from Corpus Christi, both had multiple chances to put the Rebels on the board. With 30 seconds left, Danbury was able to take the lead from Chase Sandhu’s second goal of the season.

In the second the Rebels dominated the shooting numbers, putting up 18 shots on goal compared to Danbury’s five. Dylan Blue was able to knot the game up at one for the Rebels with his second goal of the season. Sedlak recorded an assist on the goal nearly nine minutes into the period. Philadelphia had a power-play opportunity in the second but was unable to capitalize. The two teams headed into the final frame tied at one apiece.

The Rebels were able to kill three penalties in the third, but could not generate any offense. The two teams traded opportunities, but neither team could find a go-ahead goal. The game would go into overtime, the Rebels’ third of the season and Danbury’s second.

Approaching the halfway point of overtime, Sedlak got his own rebound and found the back of the net to give the Rebels the win and end their five-game losing streak. It was his sixth goal of the season and his second point of the night.

Jakub Krbecek stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced for Philadelphia in the win.

The Rebels will look to build off this game as they had into Saturday’s weekend finale against Danbury. The game can be seen on HockeyTV live at 7 p.m.
