Tyler Stern and Otto Polakovs scored to lead the “visiting” Rebels to a 2 – 1 win over the Springfield Jr. Blues. It was the Rebels first win of the league’s annual showcase, and it evened their regular season record to 2 – 2.
Stern opened the scoring with 1:52 remaining in the first period after redirecting a Klaus Jogi shot from the far side point that beat Springfield goalie JJ Cataldo. It was Stern’s first goal of the season.
Despite a scoreless second, the Rebels pressured throughout but were unable to convert.
The Rebels doubled their lead with 3:11 into the final period when Polakovs took a shot from the bottom of the near side faceoff circle that beat Cataldo long side. It was Polakovs’ first goal of the season.
The Jr. Blues cut the Rebels lead in half with 7:52 remaining in the third period when Springfield’s Logan Ganz entered Philadelphia’s zone and took a shot that Rebels netminder Jack Fialkoff made a save but the puck came off his left pad and trickled behind him and into the net to make it 2 – 1 to close out the scoring.
Fialkoff stopped 23 of 24 shots while Cataldo turned aside 26 of 28. Click here for the complete box score.
