Three, Second Period Goals Propel Rebels to 6 – 3 win over Black Bears to complete pre-season sweep

Billy Sheridan scored a pair of goals while Arhip Sidarovich, Brock Jones, Ruslan Jamaldinov and Lucas Minard also lit the lamp to lead the visiting Rebels to a 6 – 3 win over the Black Bears to complete a two-game pre-season sweep between the teams in a very spirited game. Brock Jones had a Gordie Howe hat trick.

Sheridan scored a powerplay goal just 1:49 into the game to give the Rebels a 1 – 0 lead. Sidarovich doubled the Rebels lead a minute and a half later when he took a wrist shot that beat Maryland netminder Benji Motew long side.

Maryland’s veteran Kareem El-bashir cut the Rebels lead in half when he scored 6:57 into the opening period. The Black Bears Trey Hinton knotted the score at 1:59 into the second.

The Rebels then went onto score four unanswered goals, three in the second period. The Rebels regained the lead with 3:15 remining in the middle stanza when Jones redirected a Charles Panchisin pass into the back of the net to make it 3 – 2. Ruslan Jamaldinov scored 45 seconds later to double the Rebels lead, and Sheridan scored his second goal of the game to make it 5 – 2 with fifty two seconds remaining in the period.

Lucas Minard made it 6 – 2 at 6:14 into the third period, and Maryland’s Nathan Nadeau scored with 5:38 left in the third to make it 6 – 3 to close out the scoring.

Rebels netminders combined to stop 26 of 29 shots while Maryland’s goalies stopped 25 of 31 shots. Click HERE for the complete box score.

The new season begins on September 13 when the Rebels host the Northeast Generals.
