Johnstown’s Zack Ferris stopped all 34 shots he faced to lead the Tomahawks to a 6 – 0 win over the visiting Rebels to complete the weekend sweep between the teams. It was the second time this season that Ferris shutout Philadelphia (back on September 23 he turned aside 43 shots at Hollydell).
Johnstown finished the season with a 7 – 1 record against the Rebels.
The Tomahawks scored four goals within six minutes in the first period starting with 9:24 remaining in the opening period. Johnstown’s Hayes Hundley dumped the puck deep into the Rebels zone where it was picked up by Shane Carr. As Carr skated behind his own net, he went to make a bounce pass off the end wall back to a trailing Luke Janviriya but it was intercepted by Will Moore who made a centering pass out front to Nick White who took a one-timer that beat Owen Crudale for White’s first goal of the game.
Johnstown’s Will Lawrence made it 2 – 0 with 6:40 left in the period. The Tomahawks’ Taybor Aldrich brought the puck into the Rebels zone by the near side boards and cut towards the net. With Carr draped on his back, Aldrich was able to take a shot that was saved by Crudale but the deep rebound came out to Lawrence who shot the biscuit into the open net for Lawarence’s fifth goal against the Rebels this season.
Paddy Fortune was called for tripping with 5:07 remaining in the period to give Johnstown the man advantage. Thirty-seven seconds later White scored his second goal of the game to make it 3 – 0. Johnstown’s Jayden Johnstown started the play at the top of the point and sent it down low to Zach Aben who skated up along the far side boards and towards the top of the slot. Aben took a wrist shot that was blocked out front but White knocked in the rebound into the net from the doorstep for his fourteenth goal of the season.
Johnson scored forty-five seconds later to give the Tomahawks a 4 – 0 lead. Crudale was replaced by Jakub Krbecek.
After a scoreless second period, Aben and Moore scored a minute and a half apart mid-way through the third to close out the scoring and make it a 6 – 0 game.
Crudale and Krebeck combined to stop 28 of 34 shots. It was Ferris’ third shutout of the season. Click HERE for the complete box score. The Rebels will close out their five-game road swing on Tuesday night when they travel to the Middletown Sports Complex to take on the New Jersey Titans.
