Brock Jones and Luke Minard scored fifty-eight seconds apart in the third period to lead the Rebels to a 3 – 1 win over the visiting Danbury Hat Tricks.
The victory snapped the Rebels three-game losing streak and ended Danbury’s three-game winning streak. The contest had only three penalties.
The Rebels opened the scoring with 4:56 remaining in the first period. Pressuring in the Danbury zone, Tricks defenseman Ivan Korodiuk had the puck in his own far side corner and went to clear it but the puck was intercepted by Charles Panchisin at the half wall. Panchisin skated towards the slot and took a wrist shot that beat Danbury netminder Thomas Kiesewetter long side for Panchisin’s twelfth goal of the season.
Danbury’s Logan Nickerson evened the score at one with 9:15 left in the second period. The Tricks’ Camden Charron brought the puck out of his own end and through center ice. As he approached the blue line, he passed it to David Tolan on his left. As Tolan gained the line on a 3 on 3, he sent a return pass to Charron in the slot. Charron did a 180 turn and backhanded a pass to Nickerson who took a wrister that slid under the pads of Rebels netminder Jakub Krbecek for Nickerson’s fifth of the season.
Jones gave the Rebels the lead with 3:29 remaining in the third period. Kalib Capecci took a clapper from the far side point that was blocked out front but the rebound came right out to Panchisin in the slot. Panchisin made a backhanded pass through the slot to Jones who lifted the biscuit into the back of the net for his fourth goal of the season.
Fifty-eight seconds later Minard gave the Rebels a two-goal lead to close out the scoring. Thomas Neu brought the puck into the offensive zone and passed it to Ryan Bunting on his right. Bunting skated towards the far side faceoff circle, reversed and took a wrist shot that was saved by Kiesewetter but the rebound fell on the doorstep to Minard who took a shot that beat Kiesewetter short side for Minards’ second goal of the season.
Krbecek stopped 29 of 30 shots while Kiesewetter turned aside 44 of 47. Click HERE for the complete box score.
