The Philadelphia Rebels are pleased to announce that defenseman Kolby Vegara has committed to play NCAA Division 1 Ice Hockey for the University of Massachusetts. The Minutemen are members of Hockey East. His commitment begins in the fall of 2018.
Vegara, 20, is currently tied for second among Rebels defenseman with 17 points (5 goals and 12 assists) in 45 games. During his two years with Philadelphia, Vegara has a total of twenty-four points (7 goals and 17 assists) in 94 games. The Malden, MA native was selected to the 2017 NAHL Robertson Cup All-Tournament Team. He was a member of the recently concluded Top Prospects Tournament’s East team.
“I feel honored to be given such a great opportunity to play for and attend such a prestigious university” stated Vegara. “I would like to thank my parents for all the support throughout the years. I also would like to thank Coach Coombs and the Rebels organization for turning me into the player I am today, along with the help from my teammates. I am excited to be joining the Minutemen in the fall, but I am looking forward to the remainder of this season and trying to bring a Robertson Cup back to Philly” concluded Vegara.

The University of Massachusetts is located in Amherst, MA. The Minutemen are coached by Greg Carvel, and possess a 15-17-2 record this season.
