Weekend Preview: 11/20 – 11/21

Nov 18, 2015

Rebels look to keep winning:

With wins in six of their last seven games, the Rebels look to continue their winning ways this weekend with a home-and-home against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Knights. Last time these two teams met the Rebels won in a shootout by a score of 4-3. This time around, the Rebels will be looking for a weekend sweep of the Knights to help lift them into the first place position in the Eastern Division.

A closer look at the Knights:

Currently the Knights are the last place team in the Eastern Division, however, they had a great outing last weekend during a three game series with Johnstown. The Knights won two out of three against the Tomahawks, while leading scorer Paul Maust put up five points in the three games. Maust currently leads the Knights with fifteen points in nineteen games, and the Rebels will surely have to contain him to have a successful weekend.

Staying Hot

The Rebels will be looking for their top players to stay hot this weekend to help catapult towards the first place spot in the East. Dean Balsamo (Forward of the Month Honorable Mention) leads the team in goals at ten, and does not show any signs of slowing any time soon. Kristofers Bindulis (Defenseman of the Month Runner Up) has been a workhorse on the Rebels blue line so far this season with eighteen points in nineteen games and is the quarterback of the Rebels power play, which sits at third best in the league currently. Finally, Darian Hanson (Goalie of the Month Honorable Mention) will look to continue his outstanding play in net, which puts him as the ninth best goalie in the league with a 2.19 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. The Rebels will most certainly be looking for these three to continue their success in the push for first place.

Bad Blood

Look for this home-and-home to be an intense one, as the Knights and Rebels have racked up fifteen roughing minors in the three games they have faced each other so far this season, and forty-five total minors combined from both sides. Look for fan-favorite Connor Wood to welcome this type of play with open arms, as he will try to provide the Rebels with a spark at any given opportunity.

Promotion Night

Saturday night’s home game will have two promotions. First, all fans who bring a pantry item can purchase a ticket for $6. All canned items will be donated to Aston Township’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors. Immediately following the game all attendees are entitled to “Skate Night with the Rebels.”
