WEEKEND PREVIEW: 1/8 – 1/9

Jan 6, 2016

First Place on the Line

This weekend the Rebels will take part in a home and home with the New Jersey Titans and first place in the East is up for grabs. Last weekend the Rebels split a series with the league best Fairbanks Ice Dogs, which helped them tie the Titans in points (40 pts) for first place in the East Division. The Rebels currently have one more win then the Titans and also have a game in hand. This weekend presents a huge opportunity for the Rebels to sweep the weekend games and pull ahead of the Titans for first in the East.

The Latest with the Titans

The Titans have not played a game since December 19 – in which they lost the second game in a row to the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. This should give the Titans an advantage, as they will have the fresher legs. The extended break that the Titans have been on will be something that the Titans will surely try to benefit from. Key players that the Rebels should be focusing on this weekend will be Keegan Miller and Anthony Cunaselli who both share the team-lead in goals with 12. Another threat that the Titans have is on their backend – Darren Brady, who has 20 points in 29 games as a defenseman. The Titans are coming off back-to-back losses and they know that first place is on the line, they will certainly do everything in their power to come out flying and firing on all cylinders.

Who’s Hot for the Rebels

The Rebels should be feeling good coming off a 5-2 victory against the league-best Fairbanks Ice Dogs. That game saw Andrew Zerban and Ryan Cusin get two goals as well Michael Merulla collected three points last weekend. Zerban heating up will only mean great things for the Rebels going into this important weekend, and Merulla (25 pts in 21 gp) and Cusin (24 pts in 21 gp) will definitely be looking to continue their outstanding performances as of late.
