Weekend Preview: 2/17 – 2/18; Rebels travel to Attleboro to play Northeast Generals

The Rebels travel to Attleboro, MA tomorrow to play two games against the Northeast Generals. This is the first time these two teams have met since Monday, October 10, a 3 – 0 win for the Rebels. The Rebels currently have a 6 – 0 record against the Generals with four of the six games being played at IceWorks. Andrew Bellant has been the biggest point leader for the Rebels against the Generals with thirteen (7 goals and 6 assists). He is followed by Brennan Kapcheck’s seven points (3 goals and 4 assists). Four players (Gianluca Esteves, Dom Garcia, Gvido Jansons and Evgeny Yakovlev) each have six points. Artsiom Anosau leads the Generals in points against the Rebels with two (1 goal and 1 assist).  The Rebels are 9 for 33 on the power play against the Generals. Conversely the Generals are 3 for 19. The Rebels have outscored the Generals 27 – 5 in the six games. Mareks Mitens has two shutouts.

Northeast Generals Overview
The Generals have a 3-38-3 record with nine points through forty four games. They are in last place in the East Division, sixty points behind the Rebels. The Generals have won two out of their last ten games, and they are coming off of a 4 -2 loss against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights. Northeast has scored 85 goals on the season (the least amount in the league) while they have allowed 206 (which is most in the NAHL).

Colin Bilek is the Generals top point leader with twenty seven (12 goals and 15 assists). He is followed by Kohei Sato’s 26 points (11 goals and 15 assists) and Mike Egan’s sixteen points (7 goals and 9 assists).  Luke Perunovich leads the defensemen in points with 15 (all assists).  The Generals are last in the league on the power play (13.9%) and second to last on the penalty kill with preventing the opposition from scoring 74.9% of the time. Anthony Mangano leads the team in penalty minutes (281 – which is also most in the league).

Northeast’s goaltenders through the season have a 4.48 goals against average and a .893 save percentage with no shutouts.

Aston Rebels Overview
The Rebels possess a 34-9-1 record with 69 points through forty four games. They lead the East Division, and they are eight points ahead of the Johnstown Tomahawks although Johnstown has four games in hand. The Rebels have won six out of their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a 3 – 2 win over the Tomahawks.  Aston has scored 153 goals (tied for third best in the league) and has allowed 80 (least amount in the league). If the Rebels win at least one game this weekend they will at least match last season’s total regular season’s wins.

Bellant leads the team with forty one points (22 goals and 19 assists). Garcia has thirty eight points (11 goals and 27 assists) while Kapcheck and Drew Blackmun each have thirty six points. Bellant leads the lead with twenty two goals as well as game winning goals (5). Kapcheck leads the team’s defensemen with thirty six points. Bellant leads the team in penalty minutes which 123 while Kapcheck has the best +/- ratio of +32.

Mitens and Jack Leavy have a combined 1.85 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. They have a total of fourteen shutouts, which ties a NAHL record for most shutouts in a season by a team.
