Weekend Preview: 2/24 – 2/25; Rebels home for two games against Generals

Rebels vs. Generals Overview
The Rebels will be home for a pair of games this weekend against the Northeast Generals. The Rebels swept the Generals last weekend in Attleboro by a combined score of 13 – 3, with the Rebels winning the last game 9 – 0 on Jack Leavy’s fourth shutout on the season. This weekend will be the ninth and tenth times these two teams have met with the Rebels winning all eight of them by a collective score of 40 – 8. This will be the last time the Generals visit IceWorks this season.

The Rebels are 13 of 32 on the power play against the Generals. Conversely the Generals are 2 for 14 on the power play against the Rebels. Andrew Bellant has the largest point total against the Generals followed by Gvido Jansons and Brennan Kapcheck.  Justin Jallen leads the Generals in points (two) against the Rebels.  Dom Garcia and Northeast’s Joe Vingi will be out of Friday night’s game with both players finishing up their two game suspensions for fighting with less than five minutes remaining in this past Friday night’s game.

The Rebels goaltending has a combined 1.00 goals against average with a .928 save percentage and three shutouts against the Generals. Northeast’s goalies have a 5.00 goals against average and .864 save percentage with no shutouts against the Rebels.

Northeast Generals Overview
The Generals have a 3-40-3 record with nine points through forty six games. They are in last place in the East Division, sixty four points behind the Rebels. The Generals have won two out of their last ten games, and they are coming off of a 9-0 loss against the Rebels.  Northeast has scored 88 goals on the season (the least amount in the league) while they have allowed 213 (which is most in the NAHL).

Colin Bilek and Kohei Sato lead the Generals in scoring with 28 points each.  Bilek has scored the most goals on the team with twelve.  Luke Perunovich leads the defensemen in points with 15 (all assists).  The Generals are last in the league on the power play (13.9%) and second to last on the penalty kill with preventing the opposition from scoring 73% of the time. Anthony Mangano leads the team in penalty minutes (281 – which is also most in the league).

Northeast’s goaltenders through the season have a 4.57 goals against average and a .890 save percentage with no shutouts.

Aston Rebels Overview
The Rebels have a 36-9-1 record with 73 points through forty six games. They lead the East Division, and they are ten points ahead of the Johnstown Tomahawks although Johnstown has two games in hand. The Rebels already have eclipsed last year’s regular season win total by one. Aston has won seven out of their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a 9 – 0 win over the Generals.  The Rebels have scored 166 goals (second best in the league) and have allowed 83 (least amount in the league).

Bellant leads the team with forty five points (24 goals and 21 assists).  Jansons has forty points (18 goals and 22 assists) while Drew Blackmun and Garcia each have thirty eight points. Bellant leads the lead with twenty four goals as well as game winning goals (5). Jansons  leads the team’s defensemen with forty points. Bellant leads the team in penalty minutes which 144 while Kapcheck has the best +/- ratio of +32. The Rebels are second in the league on the power play (24.9%) and third in the league on the penalty kill with a 85.8%.

Mareks Mitens and Leavy have a combined 1.79 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. They have a total of fifteen shutouts, which is a new single season NAHL record for most shutouts in a season by a team.
